About the Piece
Inspired by the spiral forms of ammonites found in nature, this piece explores movement, rhythm and organic growth.
I created the piece by hand-cutting and stitching layers of felt, gradually building a textured, three-dimensional sculptural form. The layers overlap, fold and rise from the surface, creating depth and subtle changes in light and shadow.
The soft cream tones give the piece a gentle, understated quality, allowing the texture and sculptural form to take centre stage. The spiral draws the eye inward and around the layers, revealing the intricate pattern created through the repetition of each individual fold.
